There are two seasons on Cape Verde: dry and rainy. Dry lasts for most of the year. The rainy season, however, lasts a very short time, from August to September. It is during these months that the largest amount of precipitation is recorded, with an annual average of just 100 to 250 mm. Wind in Cape Verde
On the Cape Verde islands you can distinguish a third season – windy, which the locals call Tempo das Brisas, which literally means wind time. The strongest blows here from January to March, which kites and wind surfers eagerly use. In turn, the wind loses power in the summer months – in July and August. Interestingly, the sandy islands – Boa Vista and Sal are always windy, which can be a godsend during the hottest heat. When it comes to hurricanes, Cape Verde is in theory vulnerable. In practice, this type of phenomenon bypasses this area and heads towards America.

The water temperature in Cape Verde throughout the year does not fall below 20 degrees. For this reason, bathing can be performed here all the time. This lowest temperature in the ocean stays here from February to April. In May, it slowly begins to heat, to reach 23-24 degrees in July and August. However, the warmest water in Cape Verde can be counted on by people who will come here in September and October. Then the ocean temperature is 25 degrees. It has been slowly cooling down again from November, about one or two degrees per month, to reach 21 degrees in January.

At the beginning it is worth noting that slightly higher temperatures (two or three degrees) occur on the southern islands of the entire archipelago, compared to those from the north. However, the average annual temperature in the whole of Cape Verde is as much as 25 degrees Celsius.
From November to the end of April, the minimum temperatures here reach 23 – 24 degrees, where even at night they remain at over 20 degrees. However, in the warmer season – from May to October, the bars on the thermometers can show 30 degrees. The coldest month – if this can be said at all – is February, where average temperatures show 23 degrees. The hottest months are: August, September and October.
Cape Verde – Weather in November
In November, the warmer season ends in Cape Verde. Which means that temperatures from 30 degrees slightly fall to 28-29. At night, this value is still falling, but still reaches 25 degrees. It is warm all the time, and the risk of precipitation is virtually zero. The number of sunny hours is nine per day.
Cape Verde – Weather in December
December brings cooling down a few degrees. During the day you can expect a temperature of 25-27 degrees. The nights are also cooler and the thermometers show 22-23 degrees. As for the number of sunny hours per day, it increases to nine. December is also another rainless month.

As for the beginning of the year, daytime temperatures in the Cape Verde islands are around 24 degrees. They should not fall below 19 at night. You can travel to Cape Verde all year round. This allows the local climate, weather, or even an incredibly short rainy season. It is also worth knowing that on the islands of Sao Antao, Sao Vicente and Sal the climate is a bit more crisp, compared to what we will find on Maio, Brava or Fago.

The best date for them will be arrival around the summer – July and August, or better still September and October. Temperatures often exceed 30 degrees, and at night it is not much colder. Then the water in the ocean is also the warmest. However, it is worth remembering about the possible rainfall in August and September, because it is the rainy season in Cape Verde. In August, the largest festival in the country also takes place here – Festival de Musica da Baía das Gatas. During the whole weekend, you can listen to various performances by artists representing different musical genres.
When it comes to people interested in practicing water sports, the best time to come to Cape Verde is January, February and March. The water in the ocean is still warm and above all begins to blow strong wind, needed for kite- and windsurfing. February is also a month when you can fly to Cape Verde to admire the local carnival.
Cape Verde is a good place to escape the autumn weather or go on a December trip. Temperatures then slowly drop and it’s not that hot, but of course you can still bask in the sun and recharge your batteries. It is also a good time to explore the islands, without tiring heat.
