The most beautiful and best beaches of Skiathos / Map and reviews / How to get there?

Skiathos is one of the charming Greek islands, currently associated mainly with the film “Mamma Mia”. Located in the Northern Sporades archipelago, in the Aegean Sea. This small island (less than 50 square km) is known primarily for its great weather, amazing landscapes and numerous beaches.

There are over 60 of them on Skiathos, and they are mostly sandy. Some of these beaches are accessible by public transport in the form of buses traveling around the island. For others – those slightly more hidden in the cut-off coves, you can only reach by boat.

Before we get to specific beaches, let’s make a small introduction to the island of Skiathos:

Koukounaries beach

Koukounaries Beach – is one of the most famous beaches in Skiathos, mainly due to the pine forest that surrounds it. Hence the name of the beach, which means cone in translation. Apart from pine trees, Koukounaries beach is also characterized by golden, shimmering sand.

It is due to mica particles that reflect the sun’s rays.

This place can be recommended to people who like to spend time actively on the beach, because it houses a water sports center. In addition, on a wide stretch of sand there are rows of umbrellas and sunbeds. In addition, the Princess Diana’s favorite hotel is Skiathos Palace Hotel. It is also worth adding that in the season it is crowded here, despite the considerable size of the entire beach.

Lalaria beach

Lalaria Beach – a second symbol of the island with a characteristic rock gate. The beach is only accessible from the sea, due to the high cliffs surrounding it. It is an extremely picturesque place that makes an impression due to the contrast of the blue sea and the coast of white stones. Unfortunately, these boulders polished for hundreds of years were often a greedy souvenir from a tourist trip, which is why Lalaria beach began to shrink disturbingly quickly.

To prevent this, the authorities imposed a fine of 1,000 euros for each stone removed from it.

There is no infrastructure on site, so before you travel it is worth stocking up all the necessary things for the beach. It can get crowded in high season.

Banana beach

Banana Beach – in turn, is probably the most party sandy beach of the whole island. Divided into two parts by rocks: Big Banana and Small Banana. One has a so-called beach party, from noon to the last guest. It is full of young people and loud music. The second beach – Small Banana is a nudist corner. You can also go water skiing and other water sports.

Megali Ammos Beach

Megali Ammos Beach – a narrow but sandy beach with a gentle entrance to the sea. Unfortunately, when the tide comes, part of it is submerged. On the beach you can rent umbrellas and sunbeds, there are also places where you can eat. The water here is extremely transparent, so that you can see swimming fish with the naked eye. Various types of water sports are organized for volunteers. Unfortunately there are no showers on the beach, which can be a downside for some.

Troulos beach

One more glance at the best and most popular beaches in Skiathos:

Kolios beach

Kolios Beach – a quiet, narrow sandy beach located in a cove. Ideal for relaxation, not only for families with children. Tourists can use one pub with food and drink, there is no water equipment rental.

Kanapitsa beach

Kanapitsa Beach – a small beach with soft sand and a gentle entrance to the sea. Note because on the right side of the entrance to the water, you can find sea urchins. Rather, there is no crowds, there are umbrellas and sunbeds, taverns and water equipment rentals. In addition, there is a shower, toilets and changing rooms on the beach, and you can get back to the city by boat.

Achladies beach

Achladies Beach – sandy beach, well developed. In addition to sunbeds and umbrellas, water equipment can be rented here. In the near distance there are taverns, bars and lodging houses. From the small pier you can get to the city-capital of Skiathos.

Maratha beach

Maratha Beach – is another fairly quiet place for sunbathing. Sand, blue sea and a belt of greenery where you can find moments of relief from the scorching sun are reason enough to visit this corner of Skiathos. Sun loungers and umbrellas can be rented on site, and something to eat at the bar. It is rather a cozy place where you can relax.

Vromolimnos beach

Vromolimnos Beach – a nice sandy beach that is slightly divided. On one side – the one with deckchairs for rent is a bit louder because the music from the nearby beach bar plays. The other side is undeveloped and people who value silence can relax there. The water here is crystal clear and the entrance to the sea is gentle.

Agia Paraskevi beach

Agia Paraskevi Beach – a large sandy beach with comfort and clear water. Sun loungers with umbrellas for rent or a quiet place in the shade of trees are available for selection. On site, you can eat and drink, and the entrance to the sea is ideal for the youngest.

These are not all the best beaches in Skiathos.

Mandraki beach

Mandraki Beach – as regular visitors say, this is the most peaceful beach on Skiathos. Located away from hotels and all buildings in general, surrounded by pine forest and rocks. You can rent a deckchair with an umbrella or break into the sand yourself. Nobody here will die of hunger because a bar-diner was organized on the beach.

Kastro Beach

Kastro Beach – one of the pebble and rocky beaches on the island. Small, without beach facilities, so it’s worth taking, for example, an umbrella and appropriate footwear. However, there is a tavern serving excellent seafood. Often, boats with tourists board the beach. On the top of the surrounding hills you can see the remains of a settlement from the fourteenth century.

Tsougrias beach

Tsougrias Beach – in turn, you can reach this beach yourself, because it is located on one of the tiny, uninhabited islets along the coast of Skiathos. There are also boats that will take tourists there and back for a fee. On site you will find soft sand, umbrellas and sunbeds for rent and a gastronomic point.

Xanemos beach

Xanemos Beach – is another slightly unusual beach, because it is located at the end of the airport runway. For some it will be an amazing advantage when planes fly very low over their heads. The others will run away driven by a blast of air coming from the flying machine. There is infrastructure in the form of a diner and the possibility of renting sunbeds and umbrellas.

In this video you can see how planes fly over the heads of tourists:
